You can outdistance that which is running after you, but not what is running inside you - rawandan proverb
I watched an excellent documentary on the formation of the Rwandan cycling a little while age (Rising From Ashes). It's available on Netflix streaming and I highly encourage you to spend and evening with it. It's an incredible story of reconciliation, dedication and sport.
The documentary opens with this proverb about being to outrun the physical but not the forces and that chase inside of us. It got me thinking about why I run such extreme distances. It's not to outrun the others in the race, I haven't challenge for any real placings for years. So what is it that makes me run? Could it be that I'm trying to run from something inside.
I think most of us Endurance Atheletes have some sort of phychosis, why else would be fork over 100's of dollars to spend days running in the mountains.
Why do I run?
